Supported Entity Types

PII Eraser supports a wide range of PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and PCI (Payment Card Industry) entity types. You can specify which entity types from the General Entity Types table below you'd like to detect or transform by setting the entity_types parameter either in the API request or in the config.yaml file.

General Entity Types

General entity types function across all languages and countries. Some entity types such as AGE are the same irrespective of language and country, whilst others such as GOV_SERVICES_ID differ between countries, the details of which are presented in the next section.

Entity Name Description
ACCOUNT Customer account, membership identification and policy numbers, excluding banks and healthcare
AGE An individual person's age
DATE_TIME A date or time reference, including day of week or specific time of day. Doesn't include general references such as "tomorrow", "next week", "morning", "afternoon"
DOB An individual's date of birth
DRIVER_ID Driver's license or permit numbers for individuals
EMAIL Email Address
IP_ADDRESS IP Address, including IPv4 and IPv6
LOCATION Any named location or GPS coordinates. Excludes organizations containing a location in their name, e.g. "Manchester United"
ADDRESS A physical address, including at least street number and name. May also include postal code, state, city and country
NAME An individual person's name, including titles and suffixes such as "Mr", "Ms", "Jr"
PII_OTHER PII that doesn't fall into other categories. Money values like $8,000, £90, AUD $175000, etc are not PII and aren't included in PII_OTHER
ORGANIZATION A company or other organization name, such as a society
ORGANIZATION_ID A unique identifier for a company or organization, such as a Company House Number. See the country-specific entity types for which country-specific numbers this contains
PASSWORD An alphanumeric string that is used as a password, including PIN codes
PHONE Telephone or fax number
BIOMETRIC_IDENTIFIER Specific biometric identifiers such as height or weight
USERNAME An account username, including login names, screen names, nick names, or handles
LICENSE_PLATE Vehicle license plate numbers
VIN Automotive Vehicle Identification Number, including chassis and frame numbers, as defined by ISO3779 and ISO4030
BANK_ACCOUNT Bank account number, including IBANs
PAYMENT_CARD Payment card number, including credit cards, debit cards and bank cards . Includes local schemes such as Girocard and Carte Bancaire. See the country-specific entity types for more details
PAYMENT_CARD_EXPIRATION The expiration date of a payment card, e.g. "12/21", "1309". It usually appears near a PAYMENT_CARD and CVV
CVV A CVV (Card Verification Value) is a payment card (e.g. credit or debit card) security number. A CVV is usually three digits, e.g. "123", "9 53", "one. two. three" or "3-6-7". A CVV is often referred to as a CSC (Card Security Code) or CVC (Card Verification Code), CAV, CID, CVD, CCV. It usually appears near a PAYMENT_CARD and PAYMENT_CARD_EXPIRATION
BANK_ID A bank or financial institution identifier such as a SWIFT, Routing or BIC code. E.g. "GENRUAFA449" or "A-S-T-5-4-6". See the country-specific entity types for more details
DEVICE_ID A device identifier, such as a Mac address or serial number
HEALTHCARE_ID Individual person identifier in a public healthcare system or in a private provider, such as a patient number or healthcare insurance number. See the country-specific entity types for more details
TAX_ID An unique alphanumeric code that identifies an individual or organization in a country's taxation system. Includes Tax Identification Numbers (TINs) and Value-Added Tax (VAT) numbers. See the country-specific entity types for more details
GOV_SERVICES_ID Government-issued alphanumeric identifier for individual persons used to access government services but don't fall under the tax or healthcare entity types. Examples include social security numbers or public service numbers. See the country-specific entity types for more details
NATIONAL_ID Passport, citizen card and national identity card numbers

This section details the country-specific entity types that PII Eraser supports. Note that country-specific entity types don't appear individually, instead they are mapped to a general entity type specified by the "Class" column. Each entity type has been optimized for the languages listed in supported languages.

Australia

Australian Business Number (ABN) ORGANIZATION_ID 15783958389 A unique 11-digit identifier that every registered business in Australia is required to have and must be displayed on tax invoices
Australian Company Number (ACN) ORGANIZATION_ID 965 485 304 An Australian Company Number (ACN) is a unique, 9-digit number assigned by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) to every company registered in Australia. It is required to be displayed on all official company documents, alongside the company name.
Bank-State-Branch (BSB) BANK_ID 343-070 A BSB number is a six-digit Australian bank code that identifies the bank, state, and branch for local bank transfers, functioning similarly to a Sort Code in the UK.
Tax File Number (TFN) TAX_ID 632 395 452 A 9-digit personal reference number issued by the ATO, used for tax and superannuation
Medicare Number HEALTHCARE_ID 3278851195 A Medicare Individual Reference Number (IRN) is a number that represents the position of a person on a Australian Medicare card.

Austria

Sozialversicherungsnummer or SVNR GOV_SERVICES_ID 5830 010180 This unique personal identifier in Austria is used to record insurance periods and earnings for health, accident, pension, and unemployment insurance. The number is assigned when an individual starts their first job, and the employer handles the registration. The format consists of a 4-digit sequential number followed by the individual's six-digit date of birth (DDMMYY).
Steuernummer or Abgabenkontonummer TAX_ID 22-345/6781 This 9-digit number is the primary identifier for taxpayers in Austria and is issued by local tax offices (Finanzamt). The format is typically 99-999/9999, where the first two digits identify the specific tax office. Unlike lifelong identifiers in other countries, this number can change if a person moves to a different tax jurisdiction within Austria.
Firmenbuchnummer (FN) ORGANIZATION_ID 058403A Every company registered in the official Austrian Business Register (Firmenbuch) is assigned a unique Business Register Number. This number consists of up to six digits followed by a check letter. The FN remains the same throughout the company's existence, even if its name, address, or legal form changes, and is used to retrieve all official company records.

Belgium

Germany

Krankenversicherungs nummer (KVNR) HEALTHCARE_ID A906840434 An alphanumeric code used for personal identification in Germany's national health insurance system (Krankenversicherung). While closely related to the social security system, the health insurance number is distinct. It is issued by an individual's chosen health insurance provider (public or private) and is used for all healthcare-related administration.
Sozialversicherungsnummer (SVNR) GOV_SERVICES_ID 89 858320 A 437 This 12-digit number is a unique identifier for the German social security system, primarily used for tracking pension contributions. It is issued by the German Pension Insurance provider (Deutsche Rentenversicherung). The number contains encoded information, including the holder's date of birth and the first letter of their birth name. It is also known as the Rentenversicherungsnummer (pension insurance number).
Steuer-Identifikationsnummer or Steuer-ID TAX_ID 28 381 384 103 This is a unique 11-digit number assigned to every resident in Germany for tax purposes. It is issued by the Federal Central Tax Office (Bundeszentralamt für Steuern) and remains unchanged throughout an individual's life. This number is crucial for all communication with tax authorities, for employers to process income tax correctly, and for various other official matters like opening a bank account or applying for child benefits. The format is typically presented as "00 000 000 000". It is also referred to as Steuer-IdNr., IdNr., or TIN.
Steuernummer TAX_ID 95/372/73841 Distinct from the permanent Steuer-ID, the Steuernummer is issued by local tax offices (Finanzamt) to individuals and businesses for the purpose of tax filing. This number can change if a person moves to a different jurisdiction covered by a new tax office. Its format can vary between German states but is generally a 10 to 13-digit number.
Girocard or EC-Karte PAYMENT_CARD 9459 9302 8901 5702 A German Girocard is a debit card issued by German banks and savings banks, linked directly to a customer's bank account. Girocards are often co-branded with Visa or Mastercard

Ireland

Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) GOV_SERVICES_ID 503950FA Unique personal identifier in Ireland, used for accessing social welfare benefits, public services, and for tax purposes. It is issued at birth to children born in Ireland and to others who require it for transactions with the state. A PPS number consists of seven numbers followed by one or two letters
Tax Reference Number (TRN) TAX_ID 503950FA This number is used to identify individuals and entities for tax purposes. For individuals, the TRN is typically their PPS Number. For companies and other non-natural persons (like partnerships and trusts), a unique TRN is assigned upon registration with the Revenue Commissioners.
Companies Registration Office Number (CRO) ORGANIZATION_ID 690483 Every company incorporated in Ireland is assigned a unique number by the Companies Registration Office. This number is used to identify the company in all official dealings.
Individual Health Identifier (IHI) HEALTHCARE_ID 385494239 This is a unique, lifelong number assigned to every individual who uses health and social care services in Ireland. Its primary purpose is to accurately identify a person across different healthcare systems and ensure that health records are correctly matched.

Italy

Codice fiscale TAX_ID MRTMTT91D08F205J The Italian Codice Fiscale, or fiscal code, is an alphanumeric code consisting of 16 characters that serves as Italy's tax identification number, similar to a Social Security Number in the U.S. or a National Insurance Number in the UK. Issued by the Italian tax office, the Agenzia delle Entrate, it uniquely identifies individuals regardless of their citizenship or residency status. This code is essential for various administrative and legal procedures in Italy. For natural persons, the code is generated based on personal data like surname, name, date and place of birth, and gender. Once obtained, a Codice Fiscale never expires, though a new one might be required if a legal name change occurs.
Repertorio Economico Amministrativo (REA Number) ORGANIZATION_ID RM-858393 The REA is an administrative registration number assigned by the Chamber of Commerce to all businesses entered in the Business Register (Registro delle Imprese). It is used for statistical and administrative purposes and is often required alongside the Partita IVA.

Luxembourg

The 13-digit number is based on the individual's date of birth, followed by a multi-digit serial number
Registre de Commerce et des Sociétés - B854380 Every company registered in the Luxembourg Trade and Companies Register (RCS) is assigned a unique registration number. This number is public and used to identify the company in all official and commercial dealings.

Netherlands

Burgerservicenummer (BSN) GOV_SERVICES_ID 927473821 The BSN is used for all interactions with the Dutch government and a wide range of other institutions. It is required for employment, paying taxes, opening a bank account, accessing healthcare, receiving social security benefits, and enrolling in education. It is the universal key to personal data across all official sectors.

Spain

ITINs are for federal tax reporting only and begin with the number 9, with a format of 9XX-XX-XXXX.
